We often think of family as blood. But sometimes, the deepest soul bonds we’ll ever know come in the form of fur, whiskers, and purring heartbeats curled up beside us. Our animal companions are not just pets—they're energy feelers, soul mirrors, and quiet teachers.
This week, I’ve been deeply feeling Pound's presence, my last remaining cat, in a whole new way. After grieving the loss of Pan—my sweet, sacred, feline soulmate—I’ve been tender, cracked open. And through that space, something wild and beautiful has happened… I’ve started to feel Pound on an energetic level like never before.

For years, whenever I meditate or dance in the basement, she comes down from upstairs to join me. Every. Single. Time. Like she’s tracking my frequency. Like she feels me opening a portal and she wants to be in the field with me. It’s never random. It’s intuitive. It’s precise.
Tonight, something clicked. As I stretched on the mat, I could feel the energy moving through my body—and as I watched Pound watching me, I realized: she sees it too. She’s not just being cute. She’s reading the current. Tracking the flow. Sitting in the stillness, bearing witness to my subtle transformation.

And the more I drop into presence with her, the more I realize how cats—like women—are energetic beings (keen feelers, seers, and transmitters of energy). My ex once said, “If you want to learn how to really touch a woman, learn how to really pet a cat.”
At the time, I laughed. But now? I get it. Fully.😜
Cats teach you how to manage your own energy. They respond not to force, but to the flow of energy pouring through. To truly bond with a cat is to learn sacred attunement. In other words, to energetically connect with a cat is to learn how to feel.

Pan and Cup taught me this. Pound is teaching me this. And in learning to feel them, I’m learning how to feel everything more deeply.

I don't want this sacred connection to die with me.
I'm writing this to remember.
To witness. To share.
Because hopefully, someone resonates with this as well.

While I’ve been known to wear the title of “crazy cat lady” like a crown, there’s another piece of my heart that belongs to dogs.
As a child, all I wanted was a dog. Every Christmas, I would write to Santa, pleading for one—only to receive a note in return, gently reminding me that my parents had allergies. And yet… after I turned 18, something shifted. Suddenly, my parents decided to get a dog. She was supposed to be mine, I think—but quickly after adopting her, it was clear, that she became my mother’s third daughter. She became my little sister.

Watching my mom love that dog opened something in me. I saw a side of her I’d never seen before—a softness, a depth of devotion that mirrored the unconditional love we often seek in humans. We can find this in our children, but as they grow older, and have their own perspectives and lives, the bond changes. I truly believe dogs carry a kind of love that heals people. A kind of love that changes who we are, without needing words or explanations.
Cats feel and adjusts your energy. Dogs pour love into you like it's their life's mission. Both are sacred. Both teach us to be better humans.
Journal Prompts to Deepen the Bond
As you reflect on your own life, I invite you to pause and remember the animal companions who’ve walked beside you—whether for a season or a lifetime. Take a moment with these prompts, and see what surfaces:
What animal has made the biggest impact on your life, and why?
Can you recall a moment when you felt energetically connected to them?
What did this animal teach you about presence? About love? About yourself?
How has your capacity to feel or tune in changed through your bond with them?
If you could write a love letter to this animal, what would it say?
Let this be your invitation to honor their soul, their lessons, and the energy you shared. And if you feel called—I’d love to hear your story. Drop it in the comments or send me a message.
Let’s weave a tapestry of these sacred bonds together. 🐾✨
