Invoking your Spirit Animal
After tapping into the wisdom of our animal guides yesterday, it only feels right that we now bring that connection into the body.
This is what Warrior Thursday is all about: grounding our spiritual practices into physical action. Because what good is knowing your totem animal if you’re not embodying its strength, grace, and agility?
This week, we’re talking animal and primal movement—a powerful, functional, and deeply intuitive way to train your body. Inspired by the way animals move through the world, these exercises are about more than just fitness. They’re about coming home to your body.
Why Add Primal Movements to Your Routine?
🔹 Increased Mobility & Range of Motion: Animal-inspired movements like the lizard crawl or scorpion reach open up your joints and lengthen the muscles that often get stiff and tight in day-to-day life.
🔹 Functional Strength + Core Activation: These exercises target your stabilizer muscles—the smaller, often neglected ones that support balance and posture. You’ll feel stronger in your core, hips, shoulders, and spine in ways you didn’t know you needed.
🔹 Better Mind-Body Connection: Because these movements are unusual and require coordination, they wake up your nervous system. You’ll feel more present, more alive, more attuned.
🔹 Embodying Your Animal Power: Here’s where it gets sacred: when you move like the animal within you—on purpose—you begin to become it. The strength of the bear. The fluid grace of the panther. The groundedness of the frog. The cleverness of the monkey. Each movement is a ritual. A remembering.
A Few Primal Movements to Start With:
🐊 Lizard Crawl – Low to the ground, stealthy and strong. Great for hip mobility and full-body activation.
🐻 Bear Crawls – Engages your core, shoulders, and coordination. Play with tempo to make it fierce or flowy.
🦂 Scorpion Reach – Opens the hips and spine while challenging balance and flexibility.
🐒 Beast Holds & Quadruped Crawls – Build core endurance and reconnect to your inner animal’s strength.
You don’t have to overcomplicate it—just start incorporating these into your warm-ups, your yoga flows, or even as stand-alone sequences.
▶️I found a great video that demonstrates a variety of animal movements in a way that’s both accessible and inspiring. It’s a full class, and if you have the time, I highly recommend going through the entire session at your own pace.
Just make sure you stay present with each movement, focusing on proper form and engaging the right muscles. The more you master each movement, the more muscle groups you activate—and it starts to feel incredible!
That said, it’s still quite a challenge to get through, so just a heads-up: it might push you, but in the best way. I would like to incorporate this session everyday starting today, until I've mastered the flow sequence!
Reflection
After trying one or more of the primal movements shared above, take a moment to sit with yourself and ask:
Which animal flow pattern felt the most intuitive and effective?
What emotions, memories, or energies surfaced as I moved?
What muscles are sore during notable movements?
What would it feel like to lead with this energy in my day-to-day life?
Let the answers flow along—into your journal, into your body, or into your next movement session.
Let your body become your ritual.
Let your movement become your meditation.
When you move like the animal inside, you awaken what has been dormant.
Let’s bring the wild back into our workouts!!
Okay, dear Warrior, till next time!! 🥰😋
